Historical Context: Tracing the Roots of African Diaspora in Tech

The African diaspora has a long and complicated history that started with the transatlantic slave trade. Many Africans were taken from their homes and brought to different parts of the world, like the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean.

Even though they faced tough conditions, people from the African diaspora have made important contributions to different fields, including technology.

Take for example Dr. Philip Emeagwali, a Nigerian-born mathematician and computer scientist. Known as the “Father of the Internet,” Emeagwali made significant contributions to the development of supercomputers and parallel computing, revolutionizing the way we process and analyze large amounts of data.

Another example is Mark Dean, an African-American computer engineer who helped design the IBM PC, which was a very successful personal computer. He also made many other important inventions related to computer technology.

Granville Woods is an African-American inventor who lived a long time ago. He made many inventions, like the Synchronous Multiplex Railway Telegraph and the Induction Telegraph System, which helped trains communicate with each other and with stations along the track.
