Romance Books You Should Read This Love Season

Some people love deeply and intensely, while others express love in quiet, reserved ways that may even go unnoticed.

“Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary.” —John Rohn

I once heard someone say, “I prefer watching a movie over reading a book.” When asked why, they replied, “What I can see with my eyes feels far more appealing than what I have to imagine in my subconscious.”

That idea stuck with me for a while, and for a time, it even discouraged me from reading. But fast forward to today—where I am the writer, and you, my dear reader, are engaging with my words—I dare say: everybody should read!

I understand that coming from a writer, this might sound like an expected stance, but hear me out. It’s absolutely okay to have your reading preferences. In fact, literature offers a vast range of genres to explore—romance, bildungsroman, autobiography, poetry, and many more. However, for the context of this article, we’ll be focusing on romance.

Everybody loves LOVE. But while love is universal, its expressions differ. Some people love deeply and intensely, while others express love in quiet, reserved ways that may even go unnoticed. But regardless of its form, one truth remains: we all long to love and be loved in return.

Studies have shown that reading offers several benefits, including stress reduction, emotional and empathy development, improved problem-solving skills, and a richer, deeper sense of meaning in life—all of which are essential to healthy relationships.

With that in mind, let’s explore some of my top romance book recommendations for this month of love:

1. The One! by Adesuwa O’man Nwokedi

Handsome, smart, and wealthy, the mysterious Kay is everything she has ever prayed for. But in a cruel twist of fate, she loses his contact information. And since she never gave him hers, he vanishes from her life as quickly as he appeared.

2. Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

A powerful historical romance that tells the story of a woman named Angel who finds redemption and love through the unwavering devotion of a man named Michael. Set in 1850s California, this novel is a beautiful portrayal of God’s unconditional love.

3. Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

Elliot and Macy started out as best friends, bonding over their love of books, the California countryside, and the highs and lows of life. But one devastating night tore them apart. Now, meeting again as adults with an ocean of baggage between them, can they find their way back to each other?

4. Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband? by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn

Yinka has always believed that true love will find her when the time is right. But when her cousin gets engaged, she launches Operation Find-A-Date for Rachel’s wedding. Armed with a spreadsheet and the support of her best friend, Yinka is determined to succeed. But will she find herself a husband?
