Five months ago, I paid for a gym membership, determined to get back into the fit fam club – but after a week of gruelling workouts and tight schedules, I threw in the towel and was back to the comfort of my house. And my carbs.
In our modern world, brands incessantly promote a multitude of products, seemingly tailored to address our desires and vulnerabilities. Whether it’s attaining flawless skin through XYZ products or achieving ideal hair with a single magical cream, the marketing barrage is unceasing.
But what about the pursuit of the ultimate ideal body? A vast array of brands inundate us with offerings spanning from gym memberships and diets to even surgical enhancements like Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs).
Candidly speaking, navigating this relentless onslaught can be quite daunting!
The struggle to maintain a gym life
In my early 20s, I used to be about that gym life and often spent hours on muscle-straining activities in a bid to maintain a healthy body.
But now in my 30s, I realize that the zest is no simply longer there. After registering at a gym in my neighbourhood, I ended up spending only a week out of my 1-month subscription. Initially, I felt disappointed in myself for not putting in the work to maintain a healthy body.
However, I soon realised that working out at the gym is not the only way but just one of a thousand ways to keep your body and soul fit.
And in this article, I’ll be sharing some of the guaranteed ways to stay fit.
5 ways to stay fit without hitting the gym
1. Pick up dancing
This is the first thing I always share whenever the topic of keeping fit pops up.
Dancing is unarguably a fun way to stay fit while expressing yourself creatively. You can either decide to take formal dance classes or simply dance to your favourite music at home, it can provide a great cardiovascular workout.
It is also a great way to build your confidence and flexibility.
2. Outdoor Activities in place of gym workouts
Going swimming, hiking or even taking up a sports activity are also guaranteed ways to keep your body in check.
These activities – especially when done in groups – are fun and effective ways of staying fit
3. Yoga is a good way to stay fit
Yoga offers a holistic approach to fitness, focusing on flexibility, balance, and core strength.
These practices not only help improve physical fitness but also promote mental well-being. There are apps that provide yoga services which you can enjoy from the comfort of your bedroom floor.
4. Home Workouts instead of the gym
You can follow workout routines at home using bodyweight exercises, resistance bands, and simple equipment like dumbbells.
There are numerous online resources and apps available that offer guided home workouts for various fitness levels.
5. Take daily walks
Incorporate physical activity into your daily routine by walking or cycling to work or running errands.
This not only helps you stay fit but also reduces your carbon footprint and promotes sustainable transportation.
Remember that consistency is key to any fitness routine. Choose activities that you enjoy and that align with your lifestyle to make it more likely that you’ll stick with them over the long term.
